Getaway: Arbor House Bed and Breakfast

A couple weekends ago Mike took me on a getaway weekend to relax before school starts getting crazy for him. We went to Granbury, Texas. A small town much like the one we live in, only there was nobody we knew and we spent the weekend just the two of us. It was fabulous.

We left Saturday after we went to my friends Air Show (pictures to come) and spent Saturday and Sunday night there. We went antiquing, ate good food, slept, and just enjoyed a peaceful getaway. We stayed at the Arbor House Bed & Breakfast. It was cute. Some bed & breakfasts I've been to are amazingly decorated, this one was a little more simple but still beautiful. The best part, the food! Look at the pictures below to see the main dish for our breakfasts both mornings. Stuffed french toast and a quiche to die for. We both agree we are going back. Then there was another surprise. The owner of the B&B is vice president of Sony Records or something like that. She discovered artists like Beyonce and Britney Spears. You can see all the records she has on her walls. We were like, "Oh thats cool." Until we walked outside and found the bench from Forest Gump that was given to her and we were like "OH THATS COOL!"

We loved it. More pictures to come.
Enjoy.

Date Night: Cartwright's & Atomic Candy

Michael planned the perfect date night. We drove about 2 minutes from our house to Downtown Denton. We parked, ate at Cartwright's, walked to the candy shop, then walked to the theater to go see The Color Purple. It was all perfect. The best part? Our 2 minute drive home!

I am used to living in DFW (aka driving at least 30 minutes to get anywhere). Our new goal since moving back to Denton is to leave the city as little as possible. Its been fabulous.

Foodie: Sweetwater Grill & Tavern

Sweetwater Grill & Tavern. You know those places that you drive past everyday? Those places you hear about and always say you will go. Well that place was Sweetwater for me until the other night. I lived in Denton for four years while I was in school and then recently moved back. It was always on my list and it finally happened. Woohoo!

I had their bacon jalapeno cheeseburger. Which actually isn't an option on the menu. Its two burgers combined, it came highly recommended by my server so I said why not?! It was so yummy. Like, so yummy. Had a bit of a kick to it though, which I love. If you don't like that "kick" I'd say jalapenos wouldn't be your choice. I sprung for the slightly more expensive sweet potato fries. Great decision! They were perfect. They were even good the next day for leftovers. Lets not forget their fried pickles. Such a simple thing, but so good. Except I will say their ranch was watered down. Other than that I'd say they make my list for top 5 favorite fried pickles. Now I don't know about all of their food, but from what I tried I will be going back.

Enjoy.

Foodie: La Duni

I mentioned going on a double with our friends Stacy and Ed last weekend. We went to this delicious place called La Duni. When we walked in they had the most amazing cakes on display! I ordered the Pechuga de Pollo con Broccoli. Every bite of my food was perfect, except I hate broccoli so Michael ate those for me :)

Then we went to a chocolate bar and had some yummy truffles and played cards. It was a wonderful evening.

Foodie: Taverna Pizzeria Risottera

Last weekend was one of my best friends Kelly's birthday. We went to this wonderful Italian restaurant Mike and I have been to once before in Dallas. We had the Pizza al Salamino Piccante. It was delicious. It had spicy Italian salami, grape tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and goat cheese. I couldn't stop eating it. The dinner was so much fun. It was great catching up with everyone.

I love when places to large slices of cheese. Yum.

Foodie Friday: Buttons

I decided to ask Mike on a date and I wanted to plan something nice and different so I did my research like always and chose Buttons. Buttons is a soul food restaurant that plays live jazz music at night. They have a location in Fort Worth and Addison. I chose Addison because it was closer for us and our double.

Mike got their famous Chicken and Waffles (the first picture) and I ordered Chicken Friend Chicken (the second picture) with their corn bread and mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious and the servings were huge! Next time I think we will share because I didn't even get close to finishing my food. All in all I loved it! It was not like the usual "hipster" places I am drawn to but I'd go back. We got there about 45 minutes early to get drinks just the two of us and I ordered their Buttons Knockout Punch (the third picture). It's what the bartender suggested and it was good, not too sweet so I enjoyed it.

The last picture is of me and their chef Button himself.
